New dancers and their families have a lot of choices when it comes to selecting where to take dance classes. There are private studios, rented studios, even parks and recreation classes throughout the valley. The staff at Chehalem Valley Dance Academy recognizes you have a choice, and we appreciate our dance families so much for choosing and committing to CVDA.
But what makes CVDA different from the others? We get asked that question often. Read on for some compelling reasons:
1. We focus on developing the whole person. Our motto, “Dance Skills Are Life Skills” is integrated into our instruction and how we treat our dancers.
CVDA believes the qualities learned through dancing – hard work, perseverance, team work, discipline, expressing joy, and more – transfer to real life situations today and in the future.
2. Our instructors. The instructors at CVDA are professionally trained and have performing experience as well as teaching experience. They pursue continuing education to improve their instruction. CVDA instructors set high standards yet offer encouragement and support to each and every dancer.
3. Professional facilities. We are proud of our own studios and the outstanding features each offers: Marley floors, mirrored walls, barres, good lighting and sound, dressing rooms, waiting areas, restrooms, and more. The dancers feel comfortable and welcome in our studios.
4. Longevity. CVDA Newberg opened in 1996 and CVDA McMinnville opened in 2006. We are committed and invested in our communities and look forward to teaching generations of dancers.
CVDA offers beginning, intermediate, and advanced classes for ages 2 to adult in ballet, jazz, tumbling, tap, hip hop, musical theater, lyrical….and we add classes as interest grows.
5. Year-round classes. Our 9 month program features long-term instruction for maximum growth and progress. It culminates with our annual Showcase where dancers perform dances on stage they have learned throughout the year. The Showcase is a celebratory performance tradition that our dancers, instructors, and families treasure.
CVDA also offers a full range of summer classes in all genres, as well as dance camps for various abilities and interests. Click here for more information about our summer schedule.
6. Value. Dance tuition at CVDA covers more than just instruction. New dancers are welcome and encouraged to try their first class free-of-charge. We offer make-up classes so dancers don’t have to miss out if they are absent for any reason. Dancers also love to bring friends to the twice yearly Bring A Friend Week.
All of our instructors take time outside of class to write personalized, comprehensive evaluations in the spring for each dancer in every class. These evaluations serve as a teaching tool and an encouragement to dancers, and help with goal-setting and self-reflection.
